What tests are available?

At this time, there are three basic testing options for COVID. Hometown Health is now able to offer all three tests - Send-off nasal swab testing (PCR), Rapid nasal testing (antigen) and blood testing (antibody). See below for details on which test may be appropriate for you.

Rapid Testing

For patients with active symptoms, within 5 days of onset. Not for screening or asymptomatic.

Collected with nasal swab

Testing for protein of active virus (antigen testing)

Results available in 15-20 minutes

Visit fee $50 (free for members)

Additional lab fee $50, not covered by insurance or government funding


Send-off testing

For patients with active symptoms, or for screening following exposure. Also used for travel screening.

Collected with nasal swab

Testing for viral genetic material (PCR testing)

Results available in 2-5 days

Visit fee $50 (free for members)

Additional lab fee may apply ($70-100), but typically covered by insurance or government funding


Blood testing

For patients with known or possible previous infection, at least 14 days since onset of symptoms.

Collected with blood draw

Testing for body’s reaction to infection (antibody testing)

Results typically available next day

Visit fee $50 (free for members)

Additional lab fee may apply ($40-50), but typically covered by insurance or government funding
